The Red house

This weekend house is located in a marina development across the bay from South Padre Island, Texas. The lot size is 22’ x 22’, not including the boat slip. The house is for a bachelor who wanted a very private, interior oriented hideaway. Each façade is treated as a two dimensional composition with the south façade being the “front” of the house facing the boat slip and overlooking the bay. The exterior is painted entirely red to contrast with the water. The aluminum “mast” is a lightning rod that alludes to ship architecture. The primary interior space is a loft-like 18-foot high volume that is shaded by living, dining and kitchen areas below, and master bedroom loft above.
